Lana Kim jumps for joy about her very own show

Our friend Lana Kim, Head of Music Videos at the Directors Bureau, is launching “The Lana Show” featuring self-styled interviews in DB’s broom closet with bands visiting Los Angeles. The interviews are quirky, impromptu, irreverent and funny. We turned the tables on Lana and got the scoop on how it feels to have the camera on her. Here is what she said:

What inspired you to do The Lana show?
Roman (Coppola) and I were talking about music videos one day while eating Sprinkles cupcakes walking back from Amoeba music. He wanted me to share my enthusiasm by starting a show about videos I liked.

Was the idea to do this on your coffee break or in addition to your day job?
It is pretty much the same. I hang out with cute bands all day long, but now since the show is filmed in the electrical closet I have to makeout with them in the alley next to Baja Fresh.

The trailer looks great by the way. Can’t wait to see what you have cooked up. How many bands have you interviewed so far?
I have interviewed hundreds of bands, but we only use about 10% of the shows we shoot on our Panasonic® cameras…. we do this for quality control.

Why do you think TLS is special compared to other music video outlets?
It’s honest and my wardrobe is by Built By Wendy.

And you ended up in the electrical room because?
We had a stage reserved at Sony, but decided to divert that budget to buy Scoops Ice Cream for the bands that come on.

Are you going to keep the interviews in DBs electrical closet or are you open to coming over to ours and doing one? We also have a really cool entryway and a corner with a big mirror.
The Lana Show has no rules. If I have to travel to Prague on United Airlines® to interview Michael Stipe in his hot air balloon, I will…. and I’ll bring nothing but my 3M® foam core desk, ULINE poster tubes, and gaffers tape needed for the show.
