When celebrated painter Sage Vaughn was invited to participate in the Video-themed Scion Installation tour, he came up with a concept completely different from the art he is known for.

In this exclusive video interview Vaughn discusses the inspiration for the project and what he learned about Self Help books. His video project Self Help can be seen beginning this Friday June 4th at Eastern District gallery in Brooklyn. The group show runs through June 27th.

What did Vaughn do with $1000 in used Self Help books? They will become a physical installation called the Stairway to Success.

His previous experiment with motion was the stunning NASA video Way Down which he co-directed with filmmaker Syd Garon. The video literally brought his paintings to life. Not to be missed if you haven’t seen it yet.
