Ratatat’s unintentionally brilliant video teaser

21 May 2010 Posted by Jonathan Wells in Marketing, Music Video

When this was posted last week, people said “dumbest video of 2010“, “Not too exciting” and “a bird in front of a green screen. . . and that’s about it.

I took a look at the strange bird and had similar thoughts.

“We couldn’t figure out the video when they band gave it to us,” Matt Harmon of Ratatat’s label told me, “as there is a proper “Party With Children” video coming.”

The video was conceptualized and shot by the band’s Evan Mast. Fellini, the band’s bird, also takes a starring role on the cover of the band’s new album LP4.

This is where it gets interesting. People began remixing the video, keying in background video that gave new meaning to Fellini’s head bobs. Was this the band’s intention all along?

“We didn’t really expect the viral nature of the video. I’m sure Evan did though,” Harmon continued.

Here are a few of the remixes I’ve found. The first and my favorite is by talented French filmmaking duo Jul & Mat. Hopefully more great ones will pop up soon. To join the fun you’ll have to rip the video from YouTube.
