In conjunction with the Museum of Contemporary Art’s newly opened art exhibit, “Art in the Streets“, featuring the world’s most celebrated street artists from the last three decades–Banksy, Swoon, Kenny Scharf, Os Gemeos, Mr. Cartoon, Andre and Invader are merely a scratch on the surface of what you will discover at the show– Levi’s has opened the third in a series of creative workshops, the Levi’s Film Workshop.

After a successful Printmaking Workshop in San Francisco last summer and a Photo Workshop in NYC last fall, Levi’s has chosen the City of Angels to explore and celebrate the craft of filmmaking. Our very own Jonathan Wells has been tapped as Programming Director for this one stop creative hub where you, me and everyone we know, can make a film. And the best part is, it’s all for free!

The first of a series of collaborative films to be produced via the workshop. Filmmaker Cat Solen partnered with Art in the Streets exhibiting artist Swoon to make this short film.

Levi’s Film Workshop is a temporary space that will be open to the public for four months where you can create your own films using a plethora of equipment all available for your own personal use. There are film and video cameras to check out, a green screen stage, professional editing stations, stop motion animation stations, a lending library of DVDs, books and scripts; master classes from guest filmmakers, screenings and more.

Recent events range from a Skate Video Night with Stacy Peralta, Spike Jonze and Ed Templeton to an all day Motion Painting project with NY-based artist David Ellis.

Filmmakers Nathan Meier and Malia Scharf collaborated with Art in the Streets exhibiting artist Kenny Scharf on this short celebrating his creative spirit.

This is just a taste of what is in store for you through the summer. We’ll have some updates here but the best bet is to download the Film Workshop Calendar and check the list of upcoming events.
