  • Name: Hotel Fear: A Wicked Wonderland of Phobias
  • Date: Saturday October 30, 2010
  • Location: Soho House West Hollywood
  • Who was there: A who’s who of the art, music and film world.
  • What was served: Fears and phobias

On October 30th, Flux was invited by the Soho House West Hollywood to create their first ever Halloween event. As part of the Flux Artist Series, we delivered Hotel Fear – a wicked wonderland of phobias. For one night only we transformed the entire club into a dark, twisted boutique hotel where guests could “check in” to explore and discover their fears in luxury.

We commissioned some of our favorite artists to confront a personal fear and phobia and realize it throughout every nook and cranny of the Soho House.

Floria Sigismondi presented an edible art feast based on Ornithophia in the club’s rooftop garden.

James Frost tackled his obsessive Fear of Flying by giving a club room a makeover into an airline cabin complete with cocktail serving flight attendant and troubling flight communication audio transmissions.

Ace Norton challenged all who entered his room to conquer their fear of squeezing through tight quarters.

Lisa Mann’s phobia cascaded all over the main staircase and through the penthouse sitting area.

It didn’t matter who you were, Roman Coppola’s VIP Room was one room no one could get into. The Fear of Rejection ending up being many people’s favorite installation of the night.

Maximilla Lukacs christened the Soho House’s brand new screening room with an experimental film scored in surround sound to illustrate her very real personal fear of vacuum cleaners. Annakim Violette’s bats flew throughout the Sky Lounge, while musician Devin Sarno’s creepy soundtracks filled the elevators.
